  • This is the 14th year of this event in this beautiful park setting at Robious Landing Park in Chesterfield County right on the James River.

  • This is The Best first timer's open water sprint tri : you swim downstream with the current! Bike is an "L" shaped course with a few rolling hills and one good climb, then fly on the way back to transition. The run is a fun and unique departure from road running, with 70% trail, that parallels the river in parts. It is mostly flat with some short grades and plenty of shade!

  • Many race category options: individual, relay (run as a team), Clydesdale (optional category for men over 220lbs), Athena (optional category for women over 165lbs), and aquabike (swim & bike only, no run) divisions

  • Pre race briefing is for first timers, triathletes that have not raced this course before, and open to the public.

Benefiting the Cameron K Gallagher Foundation

  • The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation is a beacon of hope for those who are affected by teenage mental illness. From free mental health programs for teens, to peer support curriculum in locals schools, to nationwide 5k races that raise awareness of teenage depression and anxiety, CKG Foundation helps those who are fighting the good fight to SpeakUp and get help.

  • Cameron taught us the power of community when she designed the SpeakUp5k. She taught us that depression and anxiety are nothing to be ashamed of and that we need to help each other because we are all fighting our own battles and we all have something to give back. We are a positive force because of Cameron but we are stronger with your help.

  • Learn more at: http://www.ckgfoundation.org

  • This September, we will celebrate our 7th year of making an impact on our local community through our SpeakUp5k. Thousands will come together to show their support for those fighting the ongoing battle with mental illness, and to take a stand to end the stigma. The festive, family-friendly atmosphere and signature on-course “fun zones” are sure to bring smiles to all.

Course Maps and Course Descriptions

Swim : Swim Course Map - 650m

(Thank you Stone Harbor neighborhood!)

This is a 650 meter course. Athletes will walk up to the access ramp located in the Stone Harbor neighborhood. This is a gracious private boat ramp and they allow the race to use the ramp only on race day, it is locked on every other day. Shoe/flip flop buckets will be available and returned to the awards area by our staff. The swim cutoff time is 30 minutes. Be careful at the swim exit, there are rocks there that cannot be removed. Volunteers there to assist.

Bike : Bike Course Map

The 18.8 mile bike is on rural roads heading west toward 288 and Powhatan. Racers will make a lefthand turn on Manakintown Ferry Rd. after the church. This very nice and lowly populated road has 2 gradual climbs. The hill climb on Manakintown is substantial (3 percent and is just under 1.7 miles in length. The elevation change is approximately 194 ft) and you will need to train for it or walk it. The midway point on the course is a U-turn just before Page Rd. You fly back down then make a right turn back onto Robious Rd (Huguenot trail). There is no bottle handoff on the bike.

GPS Bike Course

Run : Run Course Map

The run is a basically flat 5k on shady trails through Robious Landing Park along the James River. You will run a small portion into the adjoining neighborhood of Riverdowns, a very supportive community of the event. There will be 2 aid stations on the run course: one approx .75 mile mark (which you will hit again coming back at mile 2.9) and one before the turnaround at mile 1.5.
