Robious Landing Triathlon

As of 10am Saturday, we have cancelled the swim portion of the race. Extreme flooding will be apparent to you when you arrive at the race site.

The race format will be a duathlon (run-bike-run). The first run will be approximately 0.9miles, and should take most athletes the same amount of time as their swim. You will still start in your same wave at the same assigned start time, but you do NOT need to walk upriver to the original swim start area. The race start will be near to the finishline next to the river.

New run course maps are forthcoming; severe river flooding has blocked a portion of the Robious Landing Park trails we use for our 5k course - we use an alternate route. Not to worry if you studied the run course maps, we mark and block off side trails so you really have to try hard to get lost.

With the heavy late-week rain, the river height is rising much faster than previously forecasted, and a Flood Warning and Flash Flood Watch are in effect. It is NOT safe for us to put kayakers or swimmers in the river. You can watch the upriver Cartersville gauge here: Cartersville Gauge and the downriver Westham gauge here: Westham Gauge. Look at the right side of the charts - 8.0 is about the max we'd want to see. We plan to make another update about the race day swim as of 12pm tomorrow, before packet pickup.

BIB NUMBERS POSTED - Please look up your bib number before coming to race-day packet pickup. You can rack your bike on the correct rack before going to get your packet.

  • This is the 12th year of this event in this beautiful park setting at Robious Landing Park in Chesterfield County right on the James River.
  • This is The Best first timer's open water sprint tri : you swim downstream with the current! Bike is an "L" shaped course with a few rolling hills and one good climb, then fly on the way back to transition. The run is a fun and unique departure from road running, with 70% trail, that parallels the river in parts. It is mostly flat with some short grades and plenty of shade!
  • Many race category options: individual, relay (run as a team), Clydesdale (optional category for men over 220lbs), Athena (optional category for women over 165lbs), and aquabike (swim & bike only, no run) divisions
  • Pre race briefing is for first timers, triathletes that have not raced this course before, and open to the public.

Benefiting: The Cameron K Gallagher Foundation

The Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation is a beacon of hope for those who are affected by teenage mental illness. From free mental health programs for teens, to peer support curriculum in locals schools, to nationwide 5k races that raise awareness of teenage depression and anxiety, CKG Foundation helps those who are fighting the good fight to SpeakUp and get help.

Cameron taught us the power of community when she designed the SpeakUp5k. She taught us that depression and anxiety are nothing to be ashamed of and that we need to help each other because we are all fighting our own battles and we all have something to give back. We are a positive force because of Cameron but we are stronger with your help.
